Comfortable Care With Our Sedation Options

When you’re undergoing serious restorative care or oral surgery, or if you have high levels of dental anxiety, you could feel nervous about your appointment. To help you feel comfortable and relaxed, we can administer sedation dentistry along with anesthesia. In today’s blog, your Conroe, TX, dentist talks about dental sedation.

When You Need a Calming Option

We may recommend this for undergoing restorative treatments, such as root canal therapy, tooth extraction, or dental implant placement. This is also beneficial if you have anxiety or special needs that make undergoing treatment a difficult process. In those cases, we can use this for everything from cleanings to filling and crown placement. We know that your fears are very real, and often based on lack of experience visiting the dentist, or from a poor prior experience. We take your anxiety seriously and want you to feel comfortable as you receive the care your smile needs to stay bright and beautiful. Talk to our team about your concerns, we’re here for you!

Two Different Choices

What kind of sedation option will you need? We have three different ones to choose from. Oral sedation is taken in the form of a pill or liquid prior to the procedure. This begins to relax your nervous system so you feel calm and comfortable. You will likely have little to no memory of the procedure at all afterward, but will still be able to respond to the dentist as needed. The effects will take time to wear off, so have a friend or family member on hand to bring you home afterward. Common examples of the oral sedation we provide include Halcion, Ativan, Valium, and Versed.

IV is the deepest form of sedation available and is administered via IV. You will be monitored throughout the procedure, and your level of calm can be adjusted as needed. You will remain conscious, but likely will forget about the treatments afterward. Once again, you will be a bit groggy and will likely need a friend or family member to bring you home afterward.

The option we select for you will depend on a number of different factors, such as age, weight, medical history, and anxiety level. We believe everyone should enjoy their time in the office, and look forward to the next visit instead of dreading it. If you have any questions about our calming agents, or about treatment options, then contact our team today to learn more.
