When You Need A Calming Solution
We could use these to ensure people undergoing more substantial treatments, such as oral surgery to extract teeth or place dental implants, remain comfortable. We also offer this to aid those with dental anxiety, as this fear could make undergoing even minor procedures a difficult process, and we don’t want your anxiety to stand between you and a healthy, bright smile. Calling agents could also help those with special needs that complicate receiving treatments as well. We have two different options, and the one we choose will depend on your anxiety levels, medical history, dental history, age, and weight. We will make sure the option we choose for you is the most effective, and we’re always ready to listen to your concerns or fears.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is taken in the hours before the procedure in a pill or liquid form, such as Ativan, Versed, Halcion, and Valium. This doesn’t require needles at all, but you will need to avoid food and drink for eight hours before the procedure. This helps you enter a very deep state of calm and relaxation, with no memory of the procedure at all. Since the effects take time to wear off completely, you will have a friend or family member on hand to bring you home afterward.
IV Sedation
The deepest state of calm is offered through IV sedation. This is administered intravenously by Dr. Richards, and you will be monitored throughout the procedure afterward. The levels of sedation can be adjusted as needed. You remain conscious throughout the process, but are calm and relaxed, and usually forget the experience afterward. Again, the effects will take time to wear off completely, so be sure to have a friend or family member on hand to bring you home afterward.
