Stains: Avoiding Them This Holiday Season!

One thing you want to do this holiday season is smile and relax. You want to give gifts and see others’ faces light up as they open them! Of course, receiving a gift or two for yourself wouldn’t be too bad, either! What you would really love to avoid? Ending up with stains that you end up needing to take care of with cosmetic care once this festive and lovely season is all over. So, what should you be doing to protect your teeth, so they can remain nice and bright now and well into next year and beyond? Our Conroe, TX practice is ready with simple suggestions that will keep those teeth looking spotless!

Watch All Of Your Wine Intake

If you are going to be attending events, dinners, and parties during which you will probably enjoy a glass of wine, we would like to remind you of something very important: Whether it’s red or white (or any color in between), it can lead to stains. Can we fix them with whitening? Of course! However, before the cosmetic care comes into play, let us remind you of the following:

  • Red wine is very staining due to its pigments, so keep this in mind and rinse with water
  • All wines are very acidic, which means they soften enamel (leaving it more susceptible to stains) and can also thin your enamel, which leads to a yellowed appearance (so rinse with water!)

Careful With The Berries

Our team knows that berries tend to make their way into the holiday season, that they are extremely delicious, that it wouldn’t be holiday time with out them, and that they’re extremely wonderful for your health! However, we also know that they present some problems when you’re trying to avoid staining because, by nature, they stain! Unless you plan on completely avoid all berry-related options, we encourage you to do the following:

  • Include them in meals, rather than eating them alone
  • Rinse with water after you eat them
  • Brush after a period of about a half hour after rinsing

Remember: Rinsing, Brushing, And Flossing!

Did we mention the importance of rinsing with water, brushing, and flossing? This is what is going to help you prevent stains if you choose to consume those treats and meals that will lead to yellowing. For everything else: There’s cosmetic care!
