Problematic Wisdom Teeth Cause Complications
The primary reason we suggest wisdom teeth removal is the fact that these teeth that are located way in the back of your smile can either come in poorly or fail to come in at all. The first occurs when the teeth do not grow in properly behind your existing teeth but come in sideways to some extent. When they are angled in the direction of your current smile, the pressure can lead to physical damage.
The second occurs when these teeth become “impacted.” This might mean that they don’t erupt through your bone or that they don’t erupt through your gum tissue. In either case, this partial growth can cause problems that lead to infection and may also result in cyst formation.
Healthy Third Molars Cause Issues, Too
Perhaps your third molars were not impacted nor did they grow in crooked. They grew in just beautifully! This may seem all well and good but we may still suggest wisdom teeth removal. Why? Thanks to their location, they are often extremely difficult to access and keep clean. When you can’t easily brush or floss them, decay, periodontal problems, and more can develop even with your best efforts. Sometimes, it’s better for your overall oral health to remove them.
