Anxious About the Dentist?

Going to the dentist is often depicted in the media as a frightening ordeal, depicting dentists as villains who use scary, painful tools. Though these portrayals are undeserved, they’ve still impacted how society views dentistry. At the Dental Centre of Conroe, we understand that many people suffer from dental-related anxiety and take steps to alleviate stress and create a more comfortable experience for you in our office, including the use of sedation dentistry.

Your Comfort Is Important

At the Dental Centre of Conroe, Dr. Richards is committed to making our patients fans of dentistry by ensuring comfort during visits. We want to create an environment that allows everyone to receive the same level of care and relaxation at our office, and we recognize that each individual has separate anxieties and needs. We offer high-class facilities with several amenities- including magazines, WiFi, soft blankets and pillows, a coffee bar, and snacks- because putting you at ease is a top priority. We know that in order to create healthy habits, going to the dentist needs to be an enjoyable experience, not a scary one. If you know that your anxiety spreads beyond what fluffy blankets can mollify, sedation dentistry could be a great option for you, allowing you to get the care your smile needs while in a more relaxed state.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

If you become anxious at the thought of going to the dentist, our upon-request sedation dentistry may be a good choice for you. We understand that you have a unique set of needs and preferences, so we offer two types of sedation: oral and IV.

If you choose to have your sedative administered orally, Dr. Richards will give you a pill, such as Valium, Atvian, Versed, or Halcion, to swallow before your visit or procedure. This pill will relax your central nervous system and help you to stay calm during your appointment.

If you would prefer a deeper state of relaxation, Dr. Richards can administer a sedative drug directly into your vein through an IV. The amount of medicine used will be based on your needs and can be adjusted throughout the visit. You will remain conscious throughout your appointment, but you may find it difficult to remember the appointment after the medicine wears off. This is normal and might even be an added bonus in terms of keeping your nervousness at bay.

Because sedatives take a while to wear off, for your safety, our office requires you to have a friend or loved one with you so that they can drive you home after your appointment.
