It’s completely possible to sabotage your oral health. Even if you aren’t doing this on purpose, it doesn’t take away from the fact that you might end up breaking a tooth, dealing with decay, or finding yourself struggling with other challenges. Fortunately, we can see bad habits from a mile away and are quite adept at helping you steer clear of them. Take our advice!
#1: You’re Pushing It To The Brink
When you have to use excessive force to eat something, to break open a seal, or otherwise (and you’re using your teeth), you’re forcing them to do something they were not created to do. Your saliva helps soften food and your teeth thoroughly break that food down. If something requires a lot of force, it can crack, break, or dislodge a tooth.
#2: You Play Around With Care
Sometimes you are committed to your dental hygiene but when it’s inconvenient, it takes a back seat to other priorities. Sometimes you come in for a visit but other times, you go a year or more between cleanings and checkups. This is one of the quickest ways to lead to the decline of your oral health. Get organized and serious about consistent care to avoid sabotaging your smile.
#3: You Use Your Toothbrush Too Long
Are you using the same toothbrush you started using a year ago? If so, it could be damaging your oral health! Bacteria tend to collect in old brushes, as do other germs. The bristles also wear out within three months or so. Replace your brush (and don’t use one for longer than four months without replacement).
