Benefits of Using Modern Dental Technology

Conroe, TX family dentistSome aspects of dentistry will almost certainly remain the same throughout your life. You will continue to visit us for twice-yearly cleaning and exams, just as you will always brush your teeth two to three times a day. Flossing a minimum of once daily will always be in vogue, and a healthy, white smile is always in style. Other things, such as dental technology, have changed greatly in the past few years. Let’s look at some of the modern dental technology making your dental appointment more comfortable and effective.

Ultrasonic Scaling and Root Planing

The leading cause of adult tooth loss in America is an infection of the gums and connective tissues called periodontal disease. Tooth loss occurs when the infection goes untreated. Plaque and toxins accumulate on and around teeth, irritating the gums and compromising your mouth’s ability to ward off the millions of potentially harmful bacteria living in your mouth. In the past, dentists used metal scrapers to remove plaque. Today, we prefer to use ultrasonic devices. Our patients find that use of these devices is more comfortable than the alternatives.

Digital Radiography and Dentistry

Instead of traditional film radiography, we now use digital x-rays to capture images of your teeth and jaw. Digital radiography offers several advantages over its predecessor. For one thing, the equipment emits significantly less radiation for a safer experience. Because the images are processed and displayed almost instantly on our computer monitor, you’ll spend less time in the chair—as much as we love seeing you in our office, we understand that you’re busy. If for some reason we need to refer you to a specialist, we can send the digital x-rays with a few clicks, so there’s no more lugging around unwieldy x-ray films.

CEREC Technology for Crowns

A few years back, having a crown placed meant scheduling multiple dental visits. We now offer same-day dental crowns, compliments of CEREC technology. Crowns are generally recommended for patients whose teeth have been decayed or destroyed by infection, such as after root canal therapy. A dental crown is also an option for restoring a tooth that has been worn down by teeth grinding or dental trauma.
