Will Veneers Damage Your Teeth?
No. To place veneers, we must remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth. However, we will always trim away the most conservative amount possible. Typically, the layer will be about .5 mm thick. This step will simply make room for the porcelain, and it will not weaken your teeth.
Will It Hurt to Get Veneers?
If you choose to boost your smile with veneers, you should experience negligible discomfort. We will administer local anesthesia before treatment and use very gentle techniques to reshape your teeth. Therefore, you will typically only feel a slight pressure or minimal vibrating sensation during the process. When your veneers are finished, we will use dental cement to attach them to your teeth. This process is virtually discomfort-free. In fact, most people do not require local anesthesia during this step.
How Long Will Your Veneers Last?
Your veneers could last a decade or longer. Of course, you must care for them properly by practicing good dental hygiene and visiting the dentist regularly. Although the veneers themselves are stain-resistant and immune to decay, your underlying teeth can still develop cavities. If this happens, it will compromise your veneers. After filling your teeth, we may not be able to replace your veneers. Therefore, it is important to be proactive about your dental health.
Are You a Candidate to Boost Your Smile with Veneers?
There are several factors we must bear in mind when determining your candidacy for porcelain veneers. First, we must consider your cosmetic goals. If you have unusually small, unusually shaped, or slightly gapped teeth, you may be a good candidate for this treatment. Veneers can also be a good choice if you have small chips or intrinsic stains that are immune to teeth whitening. Second, we must consider your overall dental health. If you have worn dental enamel, large cavities, or untreated decay, you may not be a good candidate for this treatment. Nevertheless, if you qualify for veneers, you could enjoy stunning, yet natural, results for years to come.
