When you feel disappointed in the way your smile looks because of alignment issues, it’s important to note that there are many types of misalignment. For some, these concerns are quite mild and do not require orthodontic treatment. For others, orthodontic care is essential because not only do teeth appear poorly configured but top and bottom teeth fit together in an uncomfortable manner. However, those with very mild smile issues may rely on cosmetic treatments. Let’s explore a bit more.
For Serious Misalignment
If you need orthodontic care, we will gladly refer you to an orthodontist we trust. You will be able to receive treatment to align your teeth, so your smile not only looks much better but functions smoothly. You will find that biting down, closing your mouth, and chewing becomes more comfortable. The reason we cannot offer cosmetic treatment for your concern is the fact that cosmetics only address esthetic issues by creating the illusion of uniformity – the treatments do not physically move your teeth.
For Mild Misalignment
Issues with your alignment that are considered “mild” are those that do not require the movement of your teeth. Instead, we can help your smile look as though it is immaculately configured by filling small spaces or visually altering your tooth shape. For instance, we may suggest we fill a gap between two teeth with the cosmetic treatment we know as bonding, so it looks like both teeth touch one another. Or, we might suggest veneers. Porcelain veneers are ultra-slim casings applied to the front, visible part of your teeth. By customizing the shape and size, we can fill spaces and make your smile look straighter.
