Dental Checkup Technology: What To Expect

womanquestionbunDuring your preventive visits, you will receive a checkup and a cleaning. The general idea of receiving this type of care is probably not lost on you. Most patients realize that our goal is to help them prevent, avoid, or treat early the development of common problems, such as tooth decay and gum disease with the help of advanced technology. However, this does not mean you necessarily know what to expect from your dental checkup and our technology. Instead, you may feel hesitant to schedule your visits because you do not feel as educated as you would like or because you don’t have a solid understanding of what’s happening while you’re spending your time in our chair. Ready for the details regarding your checkup and associated technology? Consider the following information:

Advanced Imaging

A major portion of your dental checkup relies on the use of advanced imaging technology. First, we will visually examine your oral cavity with our own eyes. However, because we require a more detailed look at your tissue, we may take digital X-rays – this will allow us to see your supportive oral structures, teeth, and gums on a much deeper level. In addition, we may snap some images of the interior portion of your mouth with an intraoral camera – we will show you the images, so you have a clearer idea of what’s happening within your mouth. We may also use the following:

  • 3D Imaging: This includes in-house technology that will allow us to scan your oral cavity for a comprehensive look at your mouth.

Screenings

Every one of our patients is susceptible to oral cancer. Though certain risk factors may enhance your likelihood of developing oral cancer, it is important that we screen each patient. Fortunately, we will incorporate this screening into your dental checkup. Early detection with a screening often allows patients to receive effective treatment well before they would have recognized a problem on their own.
