You know that you’ll get pretty good results with your dental hygiene if you follow the basics of twice-a-day brushing sessions and remembering to floss once, too. However, we often have to remind patients that you cannot fool your smile into thinking that a quick run of your toothbrush over your smile is the same as a full brushing session. The same is true for flossing: You’ve got to take the time to do it thoroughly and with a thoughtful approach. Otherwise, though you seem to be going through the motions, your oral health may reveal that achieving excellence requires a bit more attention to detail.
Get The Correct Angle When Brushing
You want your bristles flat against your tooth tissue for the most part, of course, when you’re practicing this part of your dental hygiene. However, when it comes to your gum tissue, you’re going to need to angle your brush at about a 45-degree angle toward your soft tissue. You should then use your toothbrush to sweep all manner of debris away. Otherwise, your gumline isn’t getting clean enough and problems like gingivitis may linger on the horizon.
Bend Your Floss From Side To Side
If you’re not bending your floss from one side (along one tooth) and then to the other (along the other tooth’s edge), then you’re missing lots of plaque. The “up and down” approach with taut floss won’t be very beneficial to your oral health. Instead, remember that you must create a sideways “v” with your floss (some think of it as a c-shape) for success with this portion of dental hygiene.
