Dislodged Tooth? Don’t Worry!

womanworriedWhen you suffer from a dislodged tooth, you may find yourself in a bit of a state of shock. True, holding a tooth in the palm of your hand that has long resided with the rest of your smile can feel a bit upsetting. However, we encourage you to consider the following important detail: We offer emergency dentistry visits for sudden urgent needs just like this one. Fortunately, by becoming familiar with what to do, you can expect to enjoy a successful trip to see us, while we restore your comfort and smile.

Schedule Your Emergency Dentistry Visit

As soon as you can, you will need to pick up the phone and call us. Scheduling your emergency dentistry visit right away is essential. The sooner we have the opportunity to see you, the greater our ability to address your discomfort and improve your oral health problem.

Adhere To The Follow Guidelines

First, ask yourself if you’re suffering from a dental emergency. You will know if your problem is considered a true medical emergency (for which you will need to visit an ER or call 911) if your life is at stake. Otherwise, we encourage you to proceed with the following steps before your visit for your dislodged tooth:

  • Hold the tooth very gently by the crown (or the uppermost portion).
  • Turn on running water that is set to a lukewarm temperature. You will need to be very careful not to disrupt or remove any of the tissue that’s attached to your tooth. Don’t worry if a bit of tissue falls away, however.
  • Now, if you are not too nervous, you should gently attempt to replace the tooth in your smile – without using any pressure, carefully try to slide the tooth back into its socket. If you are successful, keep your teeth gently closed together to prevent the tooth from falling out. If not, no problem: Simply fill a container with salt water or milk – place the tooth into the liquid and seal the container. Bring the container with you.
