Preventive Dentistry Treatment Handbook

preventionsignPatients who schedule preventive dentistry visits know that they’re coming in so we can keep their smiles in excellent health. If you’re one of these dedicated patients, you may know that you’re doing something good for yourself – but you might not feel very educated on the details. If you’re becoming curious about what it is we strive to prevent during your appointments, we are happy to provide you with a quick guide. By learning more about the specific services we offer, you will see just how well we protect your smile during your twice-annual visits.

Dental Checkups

We offer dental checkups as part of your preventive dentistry visit. During this time, we will inspect your oral cavity with a visual exam. We will then gain a more detailed look with advanced imaging, such as digital X-rays. The goal is to ensure your mouth is healthy and to uncover early signs of change.

Dental Cleanings

During your dental cleanings, we will carefully yet completely remove the plaque that your toothbrush and floss missed. Don’t worry – patients do not have the professional instruments or techniques to remove every last bit of plaque on their own at home.

TMJ Treatment

We will look for signs of TMJ disorder – or a problem with your jaw joints. If we discover that your jaw joints are not functioning up to par, we will offer comfortable, noninvasive therapy to improve your comfort and protect your jaw health.

Bruxism Treatment

Similar to TMJ treatment, we may offer bruxism treatment when we see you for your preventive dentistry visit. In this case, however, we will offer the gentle therapy to alleviate your daily teeth grinding or clenching.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Feeling exhausted during the day? If so, you may suffer from sleep apnea. Again, we will recommend noninvasive, straightforward treatment to help you sleep through the night.
