Smile Sensitivity You’re Causing On Your Own

When you’re struggling with smile sensitivity, you may wonder to yourself, “Why is this happening to me?” as you imagine some sort of outside force causing your pain. However, what you may be overlooking is that you may be the source of this problem! Of course, this doesn’t mean you’re doing it intentionally. With that said, you may still be at least partly responsible for that not-so-pleasant issue that’s causing your teeth to feel uncomfortable at rest, when you eat, when you brush, when you breathe, and more! Wondering what you might be able to change? Keep some surprisingly helpful suggestions from our Conroe, TX team in mind and come in to see us for additional help!

Be Much Gentler With Your Brush

Of course, we recognize that you may be brushing your heart out because you don’t want cavities. We applaud your decision to do your best to avoid the development of tooth decay! However, it’s very important that you realize you should only be gently brushing for two minutes, twice a day. This will offer you all of the effective prevention you need to enjoy excellent oral health. Anything more vigorous or aggressive will actually strip more than just plaque from your teeth! You’ll end up removing some enamel, too, which can make smile sensitivity a sure thing. Protect your teeth by practicing very gentle dental hygiene.

Stop Using Any Abrasive Products

Are you using something scratchy or scrubby to cleanse your smile? Maybe you’ve been using charcoal toothpaste or something with some other abrasive additive because you want extra-clean teeth or whiter teeth. If so, remember that this can lead to smile sensitivity for the aforementioned reason: You may end up damaging your teeth. When you want a cleaner or brighter smile, come in to see our team! We can help and without harming your smile.

Ease Up With Floss, Too!

Just like aggressive brushing and aggressive products can yield smile sensitivity, the same is true if your flossing is too hard. Be very gentle with it. Take your time! It’s that simple. Need help with your technique? Please let us know.
