3 Signs You Have TMJ Disorder

warningAre you suffering from some sort of problem with your jaws but you can’t quite put your finger on it? Do you feel certain that there must be some treatment that can help but you don’t know how to identify your concern? When patients complain of jaw discomfort, the first thing we look for is a dental disorder called TMJ disorder (TMD). This treatable issue occurs when your TMJs (temporomandibular joints – your jaw joints) are not working properly or have become damaged. Wondering if TMJ treatment could help you? Become familiar with a few signs that this may be the case.

Sign #1: Your Headaches Won’t Stop

It’s one thing to develop a headache or two every now and then. However, if you are experiencing chronic or daily headaches – particularly if they occur in combination with a sore jaw, neck pain, shoulder pain, or even back pain – you may need TMJ treatment. The discomfort taking place in your jaw joints can radiate outward, which is likely what is happening.

Sign #2: Your Jaw Is Making Noises

Are you embarrassed or somewhat taken aback when you speak or chew and hear strange noises coming from your jaw joints, located on either side of your head? You might hear a crack, a pop, or other sounds that signify a problem with your TMJs. Fortunately, TMJ treatment can help.

Sign #3: Your Jaw Joints Feel Uncomfortable

Perhaps you are not experiencing any radiating pain, headaches, or other clear signs that you need TMJ treatment. What you do notice is that your TMJs hurt, feel sore or tender, and they might even “lock” occasionally. This is a sure sign that you need to schedule a visit to see us immediately.
