Do you know whether the symptoms you’re experiencing are related to bruxism disorder? If you don’t already know, bruxism is a functional issue that causes you to grind your teeth (or to clench your teeth) chronically. You may do it during the day without realizing it or in your sleep. As a result, you may need to rely on symptoms to let you know something isn’t quite right. (Of course, coming in for your checkups is also a very safe bet, as we can typically detect the problem before you will). Let’s begin with some common symptoms that may occur.

You’re Making Noise With Your Smile

If you’re making noise when you grind your teeth, you might not hear it. However, your friend, spouse, relative, or coworker may suddenly pipe up and ask what’s going on. Take this as your sign to head straight to our practice for a bruxism disorder diagnosis and treatment.

You Notice A Tongue Border Change

When it looks like the outer edge of your tongue is no longer smooth but that it dips in and flares back out, this may be a sign that you’ve been clenching.

Your Cheek Feels Chewed

Does your cheek feel somewhat chewed up but you don’t remember biting it on accident (which you always remember because it hurts quite badly!)? If so, it may be a symptom of bruxism disorder.

Your Teeth, Jaws, Head, Ears, and Face Hurt

The pressure and friction of grinding and clenching associated with bruxism disorder will lead you toward pain in your smile and the area surrounding it. The discomfort can cause jaw pain, facial pain, headaches, earaches, and jaw aches.

Your Teeth Look Worn

Small fractures and eroded dental tissue often show up as obvious physical symptoms of bruxism disorder. Prevention is possible with treatment.
