FAQs and Answers Regarding Dental Crowns

Question: How does a dental crown work?

Answer: A dental crown is a hollow artificial tooth that we will securely and permanently place over your natural tooth. The crown will protect your natural tooth beneath, while restoring your comfort, function, and beauty. In some cases, we may suggest a crown for cosmetic purposes if your damage is too severe for veneers.

Question: How long will I need to wait for my permanent crown?

Answer: In most cases, you will not need to wear a temporary crown and wait for a permanent one. We offer CEREC crowns, which utilize CAD/CAM technology so you can undergo digital impressions and receive your crown all within one visit.

Question: What material do you use to craft the crown?

Answer: CEREC machines create natural-looking prosthetics out of a solid block of porcelain. This substance is naturally translucent, just like your own teeth. The crown will be color-matched to your surrounding smile for a seamless finish.

Question: Why do I need a dental crown?

Answer: We may have suggested this treatment for one of the following reasons: your tooth requires protection after a root canal treatment, your tooth has broken, or your tooth has a big cavity that requires more support than just a filling.
