Emergency Dentistry: Care At A Moment’s Notice

firstaidtoothOh no! You’re chewing on something hard and suddenly your tooth breaks. Or, you are enjoying your day and your tooth begins to hurt so much that you find yourself unable to participate in your pre-planned activities. Rest assured, we are here to offer emergency dentistry, so you can return to comfort and good oral health when an unexpected trauma occurs.

Is This An Emergency?

We encourage you to determine the status of your trauma or discomfort based on how long you can wait for an appointment. For example, if you answer yes to any one of the following, then your situation requires emergency dentistry:

  • You are in severe pain and cannot imagine waiting for a regular dental visit
  • You have broken your tooth
  • Your tooth has become dislodged
  • You have experience some other trauma that requires immediate attention to prevent long-term damage

Warning: If your emergency includes severe blood loss or may threaten your life, we ask that you please call 911 or visit an emergency room rather than contacting our office.

What Should I Do?

First of all, do your best to avoid panicking. Take a few deep breaths and remember that help is on the horizon. Contact our office immediately, so we can see you as soon as possible. If you are in severe pain, take an over-the-counter pain reliever or place a cold-pack over the area. For a broken tooth, keep the pieces safe and bring them with you to your visit. If your tooth was knocked out, rinse it under warm water being careful not to wash off attached tissue. See if you can gently put it back in your mouth – do not use force or pressure. If this doesn’t work, put the tooth in a container of milk or salt water and bring it with you.

When Will You See Me?

We are happy to schedule same-day appointments when an accident occurs. Call our office and a friendly member of our team will fit you into the schedule.
