Have you ever thought about the questions should you ask about preventive care? Chances are good that inquiries occasionally show up regarding restorative treatments or symptoms that may require treatment. But did you ever stop to think about the questions you should ask yourself every day – or about those questions you might need to voice during your preventive visits? If not, now’s a great time to start. You will find that asking questions more frequently may actually help protect your oral health.
At Home
Do you practice your preventive care at home by mindlessly performing your dental hygiene in the morning and again at night? Getting to the point in which your brushing and flossing is essentially on autopilot can be a good thing. That is, unless you’re not actually doing your best with your hygiene. Ask yourself the following questions daily or every so often as a chance to check-in with yourself and your habits:
- Have I been using this toothbrush for longer than three months? (If so, replace it)
- Am I brushing my teeth for the two full minutes recommended? (If not, make a change)
- Does this toothpaste have fluoride in it? (Choose one that does)
At Our Office
When you come in to see us, it’s a good time to ask the questions about your preventive care that you cannot answer for yourself when you are standing in front of your bathroom sink. This can include anything from questions about the products you use to your habits. While there is no specific list of official inquiries, consider the following as good examples:
- Can you show me the correct method for brushing my teeth?
- Could you demonstrate the way I should be flossing?
- Why aren’t my teeth feeling as clean as they should?
- What’s the best way to keep my smile healthy if I snack throughout the day?
